A community-focused organisation committed to lasting change through healthcare, education, livelihoods, food security and agriculture.
Empowered communities. Thriving sustainably.
Right now we are helping finish the maternity clinic at Kyebe Health Centre III, where the nearest alternative is around 50 kilometres away. The next phase needs USD 99,000.

Accommodation for midwives
Midwives walk long distances to reach Kyebe and often stay for months at a time. Somewhere to live is what makes it possible for them to be there at all.
The maternity clinic
The health centre was built more than half a century ago and had been damaged by both war and earthquake. The new clinic is now almost finished: the roof, windows and solar panels are in place.
Lavatory, laundry and drinking water
A lavatory and laundry facility, and drinking-water dispensing equipment for patients, mothers and staff.
Emergency care and security
An ambulance, razor wire for the perimeter fence and a CCTV system — so the centre is secure and patients have reliable access to emergency care.
Before The old maternity ward.
Now The new clinic today — with solar panels, a covered veranda and a perimeter fence.
The rebuilding is documented in detail by the Rotary partners at kyebeuganda.org.au ↗.
For women living in rural communities, access to suitable maternity care can make a profound difference during pregnancy and childbirth.
The nearest alternative health centre is around 50 kilometres away, and often unreachable by road in bad weather. Rebuilding the maternity facilities at Kyebe is therefore about much more than a building: it is about a safer place for mothers and newborns, better conditions for health workers, and a stronger facility for the whole surrounding community.

Where the
money goes.
Our target — not reported spending
We keep our costs low so that the great majority of every contribution reaches the communities we work with. Our accounts are open to anyone who asks — ask us.
Programmes
Healthcare, education, livelihoods and agriculture — the work itself, including the maternity project at Kyebe Health Centre III.
Administration
Coordination, reporting, accounting and the day-to-day running of the organisation.
Fundraising
Reaching new supporters and partners so the work can continue and grow.
Lusembo Initiative aims to direct the substantial majority of its resources towards programmes and community projects. As the organisation develops its financial reporting systems, it is working towards a target allocation of approximately 90% to programmes, 5% to administration and 5% to fundraising and donor engagement. Actual expenditure will be reported transparently through the organisation’s financial statements.
To uplift communities through healthcare, education, livelihoods and sustainable agriculture — empowering individuals, particularly women and children, to create lasting change.
Established by the Lusembo family under the leadership of Peter Lusembo, with a shared commitment to service.
Lusembo Initiative Limited was founded in 2023 on the belief that sustainable change requires more than short-term assistance. Our work takes a broad community-development approach, recognising that health, education, livelihoods and family wellbeing are closely connected.
Rooted in Uganda, with strong connections to Kampala and Kyotera District, we bring together local knowledge, committed individuals and meaningful partnerships to respond to real community needs — with particular attention to women, children and underserved communities.
Five areas,
one purpose.
Health, education, livelihoods and family wellbeing are closely connected. We take a broad community-development approach rather than treating any one of them in isolation.
Healthcare
We support initiatives that improve access to quality healthcare in underserved communities — maternal and child health, safe childbirth, disease prevention and essential medical services. Strong communities begin with healthy families.
Education & skills
We seek to expand educational opportunities for children and young people, alongside vocational and practical skills that can lead to employment, entrepreneurship and greater independence.
Sustainable livelihoods
We focus on economic empowerment, income-generating activity and financial literacy, with particular attention to women and vulnerable groups.
Food security & agriculture
We support approaches that promote sustainable farming practices, improve access to nutritious and affordable food and strengthen rural livelihoods.
Women & children
Across our programmes we work to promote wellbeing, safety and opportunity, so that women and children can play a full part in community life.
Local roots.
Strong partnerships.
Sustainable impact.
Effective development begins with listening. Rather than treating communities as beneficiaries, we work with people, local leaders, professionals and partner organisations to understand the challenge and find the right response.
