What we do · 04Food security & sustainable agriculture.
Food security is closely connected to health, livelihoods and community resilience.
Food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture form an important part of Lusembo Initiative’s objectives. The organisation seeks to strengthen access to nutritious, affordable food and support farming practices that can improve both community wellbeing and rural livelihoods.
The Initiative’s intended approach links agricultural knowledge, better food production and sustainable income opportunities, recognising that healthy communities also depend on reliable food systems.
Coffee, mixed farming and stronger livelihoods.
Lusembo Initiative Limited supports sustainable agriculture as a practical pathway to stronger livelihoods, improved food security and greater household resilience in Kyebe and surrounding communities.
The Initiative has established more than five hectares of coffee in Kyebe, using mixed-farming practices that combine coffee with other crops to support both long-term income generation and productive use of the land. Lusembo Initiative also provides coffee seedlings to local farmers, helping households establish or expand their own coffee-growing activities.
In addition, Lusembo Initiative hosts Unbound’s local operations in Kyebe, including office and accommodation facilities located on Lusembo Initiative property. While the two organisations remain separate, Lusembo Initiative supports Unbound’s community-development objectives and values its contribution to local livelihoods, education and family wellbeing.
Together, these efforts reflect Lusembo Initiative’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, practical economic empowerment and long-term community development.
